Client vs Trainer

Tim Hutt

Client

My chosen charity is Lancashire Age UK as we have a common in interest in the elderly. Their Vision is ‘Until everyone is living their best later life .’

I’m involved with Shipston Care Limited of Granville Court, Shipston on Stour whose Vision is to create a better everyday life for the many people within the Shipston on Stour area who need support in their home.

Our Mission is:

‘To be the most dependable, consistent, trusted, caring and effective provider of Care in the home within Shipston on Stour and its outlying districts’

I have a vested interest in our work for the elderly as I’m rapidly becoming one myself!!

With us it’s personal, we provide our Carers with the best salary package and work ethos in the industry who are then motivated to ensure they provide the best possible care for our treasured Clients.

I first met Marc a couple of years ago and, having had a Personal Trainer before, was well placed to assess his Training Offering. I have to say I was amazed at the knowledge of body and mind that the man possesses and would gladly pay more for his ‘best of breed’ Service (please don’t tell him this!!). It’s fun too and the emerging results upon my body are incredible

James McTigue

Trainer

I’m a firm believer in the power of martial arts and self defence training to promote physical health, mental wellbeing, and enduring resilience.

I’ve been training in kickboxing with Marc for five years now, and more recently I’ve been helping teach the Little and Junior Dragons classes on Saturday mornings. Being part of that process and watching the children from the local community grow in skill, confidence and maturity has been a true pleasure.

It’s an honour to be part of the 2022 charity boxing event. The dedication and fortitude of the competitors has been an inspiration.

Each individual fighter is raising money for some of the most worthwhile charities. Me, (as part of the Shipston Personal Training coaching team) i’ll be raising money and giving donations to Shipston Primary School, which will make a big difference to an institution that’s at the heart of this community.

Brain Tumor Charity

Oliver

This is a story about how I introduced two friends who fell in love and went on a road trip. Tragically at the back end of that trip one of them had a seizure which turned out to be caused by aggressive and terminal brain cancer. He is just turning 46 years old and unfortunately is living proof that life is too short! For many years he has taken the mickey out of my fitness and general ‘dad bod’, so I’ve decided to get fit and learn to box and have now been coerced into the ring for an unlicensed white collar boxing match. For those who know me, this is unusual behaviour on all fronts, I have a smart mouth and on 26th November I will be repeatedly punched in the face by someone I don’t know for 3x 2 minute rounds while dancing around an enclosed space trying not to cry.

The Brain Tumour Charity is the world’s leading brain tumour charity and the largest dedicated funder of research into brain tumours globally. Committed to saving and improving lives, they are moving further, faster to help every single person affected by a brain tumour. They are set on finding new treatments, offering the highest level of support and driving urgent change. And they are doing it right now. Because they understand, and tragically now so do I, that when someone you love and respect, is diagnosed with a brain tumour a cure really can’t wait.

CAUSE:
BEN

Simon

I’m Simon, a husband and father to two children and I run the Forge Garage in Brailes.

I’ve been training with Marc for around a year and somehow got talked into fighting for a good cause this November!

I do love a challenge so I’m hoping to surprise myself and have a good time in the process.

My efforts are raising money for 2 charities:

My Mother In Law died of Parkinsons last year and my Father was diagnosed earlier this year; it’s an awful disease but research by Parkinsons UK is helping those with it to live better. There is always the hope of a cure.

Ben is the charity dedicated to supporting the people of the automotive industry, providing support for life for them and their family dependents. As a three generation family business (which is 70 this year) it’s good to be able to put something back to support people working in my industry.

CAUSE:
Parkinson’s UK

Stuart

I’m Stuart, a local business owner and unfortunately well on the wrong side of 50.

I went to Marc nearly 12 months ago to get myself fit and increase my strength.  I have decided as an anniversary challenge, to completely go outside my comfort zone and enter a charity boxing match to challenge myself and at the same time raise money for some great causes.

My father has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, a horrible disease with no cure, however good & positive work is being done to understand the disease and to help symptoms and ultimately find that important cure.

Rider’s Minds

Henry

I’m Henry, I’m an equestrian event photographer.

I started training with Marc about 8 months ago to improve my strength. I had heard from Emma Bexson who is a chiropractor in Shipston that he had done these charity boxing events which sounded awesome. So when the opportunity arose I jumped at the chance!
Its so far out my comfort zone its hilarious. I mean I can’t even rub my oversized belly and pat my head at the same time, so could make for an interesting night. Saying that I’m always up for the challenge! So here goes nothing!

I am raising money for 2 charities first one is Riders Minds which is a charity supporting the mental health and well-being of horse riders as I work very closely with riders and know how the ups and downs of the equestrian world can be hard. Also similar Yellow Wellies is a Stratford based farming charity that raising awareness of farm safety and mental wellbeing in farmers.

CAUSE:
National Autism Society

Daniel

Hi my name is Daniel Clark. I’m a 21 HGV driver and I run a livestock haulage company with my dad Alan.
I’ve always had a passion for martial arts and it has been one of my dreams to fight in a ring.
I’ve been training with James at Shipston Personal Training since January 2022.
I am raising money for the National autism society.
I myself suffer with autism and I don’t think it is recognised as much as it should be so I am stepping into the ring this November to raise money for all those with autism, so please donate and help me get the support autism needs!

CAUSE:
Solving Kids’ Cancer

Brodie

My name is Brodie. I’m currently training to become a Personal Trainer with Shipston Personal training. I enjoy training myself as it improves my mental state and I want to help others feel this whilst improving the way they feel they look.

I began boxing with Marc earlier this year to build confidence in myself whilst starting to develop a new skill. Boxing is something I always wanted to try and the team at Shipston Personal Training’s approach is one of development in a tailored manner.

I decided to step into the ring because this is potentially a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience boxing with a great team in a safe environment. I know it’s going to be hard but also, fun!

The reason I chose this charity is because Cancer is an awful thing full stop but in Children, seemingly more unfair. This charity tries to give children more of a fighting chance. Please help me fight this fight to fight for the children who need it.

CAUSE:
The Warwickshire Project

Nina

Where to start?

My sister and I the most wonderful childhood, we had love, support, encouragement and opportunity. Not all kids are as fortunate and I have met quite a few now who have still gone on to make the most out of their lives and talents.  Most of these people have had a mentor, someone who they can look up to, inspire them, support them, open up the world to them.

Julie died at 27 years old in a climbing accident, and as tragic and traumatic that was and still can be for us, her death did inspire me to be more active. Julie was the sporty fit adventurous sister, and me well I liked to party 😉 one of her last conversations with me?? or was it a lecture?? Nina you are going to die of a heart attack before you are 30 if you don’t sort yourself out.. memories hey.. so 19 years later I’ve done many things like run a marathon, ridden quite a few 100 mile sportives ( even on a tandem), and cycle toured across France, Scotland and the length of the Moselle river with my Dad. However I’ve never boxed.

When the opportunity arose for me to get fund raising, I really wanted to find a charity that supported my values and beliefs that all children deserve to live as children and experience everything life has to offer so that later in life they might make a difference themselves.

The Friendship Project is a Warwickshire-wide charity that matches children and young people (who are in need, for a variety of reasons) with volunteers, for friendship and fun. The child may be caring for a sick parent or be limited to where they can go on holiday because of a disabled sibling or other family member. For some children, even playing in the park or going to the cinema are a rare treat. Having some time out from often difficult home situations really does improve the child’s self-esteem and self-worth. Our volunteers report that they too enjoy spending time with their Younger Friend knowing that they are really making a difference to a child’s life.

It’s a huge challenge for me, both fitness, skill and being in a ring. So please do support me, and do support my chosen charity as I hope you can appreciate the opportunity and service it offers to Children 🙂

Macmillan Cancer Support

Tom R

I’m Tom 35 and have been training just over a year now with Marc. Having taken part last year, I was talked into having another go by my wife (I lost weight last year!).
The night itself was amazing but to be honest my favourite part was the training with everyone. I still see Pat in the pubs in Shipston.
I had plans to overcome my other fears this year (planes & snakes) but it hasn’t worked out. So having another go over coming confrontation seemed the best way to go.
The Charity i have chosen is Macmillan.  Cancer touches so many lives & any small contribution to help those who need support is a small price to pay for getting punched for 6 minutes.

CAUSE:
Sea Shepherd UK

Tom N

I’m Tom. I work on boats.

Two places I feel most at peace are the gym and the ocean. When Marc offered me the chance to embark on a twelve week adventure, meet some great people, and raise a little money for something close to my heart…I found my mouth saying yes before my mind had time to consider the hill runs, battle ropes, and face punches.

My chosen cause is Sea Shepherd UK, a marine conservation charity whose aim it is to end the destruction of ocean habitats.

Macmillan Cancer Support

Faye

Learning to box has always been an ambition of mine, which wasn’t realised until I discovered the Pinkbelt kickboxing course.
After completing the course and getting my belt, I was very keen to carry on boxing and I have been training with Miranda on the pads since.
I must admit that an actual fight is way out of my comfort zone, but a challenge has always been appealing to me and one for an excellent cause seems like an exciting next step.
MacMillan is very important to me as unfortunately I’ve had too many close relatives and friends who have suffered with that awful disease. They offer practical and emotional support which is so important during the darkest times.

CAUSE:
Medics4Ukraine

Jack

Many of you will probably remember that I took part in a charity boxing event in December last year.  Due to your very generous donations, we raised over £11,000 for Mind UK, the mental health charity. Thank you!

This year, I’m taking part to raise money for Medics4Ukraine. The donations will be used to supply and transport much needed medical supplies to the incredible medics saving lives on the front line.

Peter Wilson, my opponent (and hopefully still a friend) in last years event, was part of a convoy that delivered supplies for Ukraine earlier this year.

World Extreme Medicine have used their global network to effectively deliver aid directly into Ukraine throughout the conflict.

Beginning with a £100,000 fundraising appeal, and masterminded by a team of extreme medical experts drawing on previous experience of running medical convoys into conflict zones, they’ve successfully delivered over a million pounds worth of trauma supplies directly to the front line.

Alongside these aid deliveries, the Zelensky government has also asked them to deliver a pilot trauma training course, utilising their skills and expertise where it matters most.
